Semi-Dwarf Cherry, ‘Montmorency’

Description

This is the most popular sour cherry grown in the United States and is ideal for pies and preserves. In mid‑spring, the tree is covered with clusters of white flowers, followed by a heavy harvest of bright red cherries with yellow flesh in early to mid‑summer. It is self‑fertile and does not require a pollinator, though planting multiple trees can improve cross‑pollination and yields. This deciduous variety requires about 700 hours of winter chill. Plant in humus‑rich, acidic, well‑drained soil. Water deeply and consistently during the first few growing seasons to help develop a strong, extensive root system, then reduce watering as the plant becomes established.
