Blanket Flower, ‘Arizona Red Shades’

Arizona Series‘Arizona Red Shades’ produces an abundance of large, crimson red flowers from early summer through early fall, even in hot and dry conditions. Because it is seed grown, approximately 20 percent of the blooms may show light yellow tipping. What distinguishes this improved variety from the older ‘Burgundy’ is its much shorter, more compact size and uniform habit, making it especially well suited for pot production. Strong branching ensures finished plants fill containers evenly and maintain excellent shelf life at retail. Plants will flower the first year from seed. Once established, these perennials require minimal care. They are heat tolerant and actually thrive in poorer soils. Their common name reflects how they once blanketed North American prairies with color, and they can still be found growing in fields and along roadsides throughout the prairie regions and into the Rockies.Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens, Inc.
