In spring, new stems emerge nearly black, with very dark green leaves highlighted by silvery veins. The stems retain their dark color throughout the season. In late spring, light periwinkle‑blue, star‑shaped flowers blanket the foliage and continue blooming for many weeks. While spring is the main season of interest, the plant maintains an attractive presence through summer and fall. Its broad, mounded form makes it well suited for use as a shrub substitute in the landscape. Younger plants have a more vase‑shaped habit, so be sure to allow enough space for mature growth.
