Description
Huge, double, carmine red blooms are displayed on the bold, erect stems of this clumping perennial. An excellent background plant for spring bulbs, or use in perennial or shrub borders. Choice cut flowers. American Peony Society award recipient. An herbaceous perennial. This herbaceous peony needs winter chill to set buds. It will not flower in zones 9-11.Thrives in organically rich, well-drained soil with a neutral pH. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish root system; once established, reduce frequency. Remove spent blooms for a tidy appearance. Prune foliage in fall. Needs little fertilization; an annual side dressing of organic compost is beneficial. Herbaceous peonies need winter chill to set bud and flower- typically 500 to 1000 hours. They are not recommended for USDA hardiness zones 9-11.Registered with the American Peony Society in 1940.Additional information
