Planting & Care: Plant in the fall after the first frost, or as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. Break bulbs apart into individual cloves and let them sit for a few days in their papery husks before planting. Plant cloves 2 inches deep and 4 inches apart, pointy side up. Water regularly in the spring, trimming back any flower stalks that appear. Harvesting & Storage: Harvest when tops begin to turn yellow and fall over . To cure, hang them so the bulbs get plenty of air circulation. Keep the curing bulbs out of the sun. When the husks are dry and papery and the root crown is hard, they’re ready to be stored. Clean off any soil and store in a cool, dark, dry place. Tops can be trimmed or braided together to hang. Flavor will improve with age.
