Most of its blooms are “perfect flowers,” meaning each one contains both male and female reproductive parts. As a result, a single plant is capable of producing fruit on its own. This rare trait likely contributes to its remarkably heavy fruit set and berries that are roughly twice the size typically seen in the species. Despite its vigor, it does not exhibit the invasive tendencies associated with Asian bittersweet. Overall, it represents a significant enhancement to this popular native vine.
