Populus tremuloides ‘Prairie Gold’
Quaking aspens are fast-growing, tough, native prairie trees. They can grow anything from shallow, gravely soil to heavy clay, though they can become chlorotic on alkaline soils. They are known for their bright golden fall color and creamy white bark. They have fewer pest-problems than birch, and are more heat-tolerant. Prairie Gold is a naturally selected cultivar found near Columbus, Nebraska and introduced by UNL. It has especially beautiful fall color and good disease resistance. Adapted to the heat, humidity, and drought conditions of Nebraska summers.
