Deciduous Azaleas are multi-stemmed, upright shrubs known for their extravagant flowers. Medium-green, thin foliage emerges with the trumpet shaped flowers in early spring. Great pollinator. 5-petaled, 5-stamen blooms come in a variety of different colors based on selection. The Northern Lights series is known for its upright, rounded habit staying under 4’ tall. The White Lights cultivar features white spring flowers with a tinge of yellow. They prefer acidic, organically rich, moist, well-drained soils in part shade. Leaves can scorch in too much sun or turn yellow in alkaline soil. Shallow root system needs good drainage, but shouldn’t dry out. Adding sulfur or iron sulfate lowers the soil pH to resolve any foliage discoloration. Used often in borders, screenings, or specimen plantings.
