"Endorphins. Your Garden Produces More then Beauty"Featured in the March/April, 2004 NewsletterYou certainly get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment out of your garden. But did you know you're reaping some significant health benefits, as well? According to horticultural therapists, gardening can produce endorphin highs similar to those experienced when jogging and cycling. In one study, women age fifty and older who gardened at least once a week had higher bone density than those who jogged, walked, swam, or did aerobics. It's even been found that simply looking at trees and vegetation reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and relieves muscle tension. Given all these findings, it's no surprise that one study concludes: "Those who are involved in gardening find life more satisfying and feel they have more positive things happening in their lives." But you already knew that, didn't you? Health benefits are just one of the many reasons we have to celebrate gardening. And there's no better time than April. April is National Garden Month. And this April, Campbell's will be celebrating with a special month-long Gardenfest-the first time Campbell's annual spring event has been extended to four full weekends of celebration. Both garden center locations will be jam-packed with special sales and events designed to fill your winter-weary mind with ideas for your garden. If nothing else, simply stop by and fill your nostrils with the sweet aromas from our greenhouses. With the exception of Easter weekend, seminars will be held each Saturday. Notable speakers include Kip Walker (pond expert from Kansas City), Jayne Roberts (perennial expert from Michigan), and Dick, Doug, and Mike Campbell. All seminar seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the seminars on April 3rd, 17th, and 24th will be held at the 56th and Pine Lake garden center, while the April 30th (Friday) and May 1st seminars will be held at 40th and Normal. In addition to Campbell's knowledgeable experts, representatives from some of our most trusted lawn and garden products will be on hand throughout the celebration to answer any questions you might have. Stop by Campbell's each weekend in April. Who knows, you may just lower your blood pressure and stress levels as a result. |
